How does GPWv4 compare to previous versions of GPW?

Many improvements have been made in GPWv4, including:

  • Using a smaller grid cell size (30 arc-second or ~1km)
  •  More current input data (GPWv4 uses census data from the 2010 round of censuses)
  •  Higher resolution input administrative units (~12.5 million units globally vs ~400,000 in GPWv3)
  • Census variables are being gridded (sex, age, and urban/rural designation)
