How does GPWv4 compare to previous versions of GPW?

Many improvements have been made in GPWv4, including:

  • Gridding at a smaller raster cell size (30 arc-second or ~1km at the equator)
  •  More current input data (GPWv4 uses census data from the 2010 round of censuses)
  •  Higher resolution input administrative units (~13 million input units globally vs ~400,000 in GPWv3)
  • The census variables age and sex have been gridded (and an urban/rural product will be released in 2018)
